victscamkel73 wrote:My Husband and I have been scammed in the last week by the so-called 'John Neale'. We are gutted to say the least. He has had £4,200 from us. My husband believed the emails that he was receiving were from ebay and it all seemed real. Only after having paid the Money stuuuuuupidly!!!!??? and waiting for a vehicle to arrive from Scotland ( same address in Dundee as on your emails) did I look at the emails more thoroughly and realise they were not from ebay at all. The emails came from '[email protected]' . When I googled the email address I came upon this site and realised devastatingly what had happened to us.

The bank account beneficiary is the same F. Marandiuc / Barclays / sort code 20-95-61/Acc. 43351939.

I have been to my bank, there is nothing they can do. We went to our local police station who told us that we need to wait longer for the goods to be delivered as there has been snow in Scotland. WHAT A JOKE?? We were trying to convince the police that we were victims of a serious Fraud and we needed help and they have told us to come back after Easter!!?? I am absolutely devastated by this.

We came home and phoned Action Fraud. We now have a crime reference number. So what?

Ebay cant help us as the listing was pulled so quick my husband cant remember what user id the seller used, so ebay told me today that it will be like trying to find a needle in a haystack!

How is it possible that so many people on here are getting scammed or nearly getting scammed, we all have the same details and who ever it is, is still getting away with it despite us reporting it. I cannot believe it.

Barclays Bank wouldn't even let me give their fraud department details of this account that we paid the money to.

I cant sleep these last few nights because of the money we've lost, because we feel so stupid for allowing this to happen to us. I did say to my Husband at the time that we should pay by Paypal or cash on delivery, but My Husband seemed so assured by the 'Buyer protection' Garb that had been sent through. I Didn't realise that my Husband was getting private emails that wern't through ebay, so just didn't take much notice. Aaaaarrggh!!
What a mess!!! Whoever they are even have our address!!! Thank Goodness we are moving.

hi
I nearly fell for it yesterday. theeaves had a takeuchi mini digger on ebay, when i emailed it was sarah@btwep
who works in scotland. the emails went as follows read from the bottom to top

Why can't whoever you're trusting to deliver it collect the cash on your behalf? - not cheque, cash. I am not happy to pay the money out (even to ebay) before I receive it. It clearly states it is not covered by the Buyer Protection.
Best regards

Delivery is available asap but first we need to start the deal with eBay. It will be done with eBay !
To start the official transaction, I need to know your delivery information. As soon as I have them I'll start the official procedure, and eBay will send further instructions including payment and delivery terms.
Thank you

Sarah

Hi Sarah
Sorry, but does the yes mean you can arrange cash on delivery as I asked below? and why did you remove it from ebay? You can deliver asap - the cash is waiting. I don't want to mess you around. Have we got a deal?

Hi Sarah
I've just looked at the ebay BP process and come across the below which clearly states tractors aren't covered (the mini digger would come under this category).
Exclusions from eBay Buyer Protection

eBay Buyer Protection doesn’t cover services and certain categories of goods, false, abusive or illegitimate cases, or purchases where you have been or may be compensated by another third party. The following purchases are excluded:
Intangible goods
Classified Ad listings
Access to digital content
Items listed or that should be listed (under our listing policy) in these categories:
Businesses for sale
Specialty services
Vehicles (including, without limitation, motor vehicles, motorcycles, caravans, aircraft and boats, tractors and ride-on lawnmowers);
Residential Property (Real Estate)

Can you let me know why you removed the digger from e-bay? As I've said before I don't want my money tied up - I need a machine asap. Is there any way you can arrange cash on delivery?
Regards

Yes hp clear no finance on it, full working order. nothing to hide.I will not be able to arrange cod service but eBay will provide us a safe and convenient way to proceed.
I am ready to accept £3,300 if we do it with eBay.

Hi Sarah
I only need this machine for about a month or so to do landscaping around a house I've built, then I want to sell it. Can you please confirm that it's all clear, re: hp, finance etc?

No offence meant, but I would have preferred it in it's working clothes, it's been painted, sometimes that can be to hide things. Will you take 3300 pounds cash on delivery? Going through the ebay BP method sounds a bit complicated and if you change your mind about selling, how long would it be by the time I got my money back? I need the machine as soon as possible. Cash is ready. You can call me to discuss -

Kind regards

Due to my location and since view or pick up is not an option I have requested personal support and I was approved to use Buyer Protection Program. Here is how the process works:

- you give me your full name and shipping address
- I start the transaction with the eBay,
- they send further payment instructions,
- you have to pay for the item to eBay to secure the funds,
- they confirm me that they received the funds,
- I deliver the digger,
- you receive the digger,
- they send me the money,

Everything is covered by eBay. I will get paid only after you confirm that you received the digger in good order.
Let me know if this is acceptable. Thank you

Sarah

Hello,
Are you still interested ? The digger is still for sale. Immaculate condition, no damages, nothing to worry about. All necessary documents available. My current location is Scotland due to my work commitments. If this is going to be a quick sale, I will let it go for £3,500 delivered at my costs.
The deal will go strictly according to eBay Buyer Protection rules and policy.
Thank you

Sarah

Might be worth looking out for this one as well [email protected]

The exact same wording is used in the mail to you to "sell" the item

Ebay strikes again and what protection do they give you? not a lot

Welcome to ScamWarners rr1. Please provide us more information regarding the email address you provided. Just having an email address really does no good.

It is easy to blame ebay or craig's list, but they do not have any way to screen the people who post on their sites to make certain people are not misusing them. The post warnings and remove offenders immediately. The same is true regarding Western Union and MoneyGram, they warn users, but most people ignore the warnings.

Please post up more information.

I may be wrong but if you advertise on Ebay you cant pay for the advert in cash. So why cant they trace where the payment for the advert came from. Also the banks are at fault, a previous contributor listed all the accounts these fraudsters hold in Barclays. They know about the problem and continue to pass the money on. Its a case of them not being interested and a total disregard for their customers.

Welcome to ScamWarners llannefydd, you pose some good questions.

Scammers often use what are known as "mules" to handle the cash. The article in the link indicates that eBay is one of the places mules are used.

Accounts get phished even on eBay and other online selling sites. Even bank accounts are phished. Banks are not police agencies and cannot discriminate against classes of potential customers. In the USA it is necessary to show at least two forms of identity to open a bank account.

It is easy to say, "They ought to do this or that." Banking and international banking are complicated and banks cannot make certain changes without approval by the banking commissions, or they lose their ability to be a bank.

I share your frustration and that is why I am active here on ScamWarners. What we do does hurt scammers and I am proud of that.

Hi Bubbles
I know these people are very slippery and spend all their time time defrauding people and I will never be as sharp as them. It just makes me very angry that here in the UK that law abiding people have a very hard time opening a bank account. Then if you go to your local branch without your card and you do not have some form of identity even though they recognize you and you can answer any security question you will not be allowed to withdraw any cash. If you want to transfer money abroad you will have to provide extra information. If money from a fraud went through my account it would be frozen immediately. When you hear of what these people are getting away with you cannot believe it. The banks seem to assist them.

I feel so ashamed to admit I have been coned by catherine neale and her gang I thought I bought a caravan, and the same speed she was in Scotland due to work but I would be protected buying with eBay, it cost me 4,500 pounds, I went to police station with all the emails, they said don't hold your breath with regards to getting your money back.

I just don't know how Barclays Bank can let this continue week after week, surely they are negligent for not checking out the I D ov these gangsters surely a phone call to the utility company would let you know if the person lives at this address, Barclay,s are most definitely negligent in all of these scams and should be brought to task over it, every one is Barclays to blame, I sent my money in good faith thinking I was protected not only with eBay but I thought at least I have their bank details and can find them, but the police told me because of privicey laws that protect the gangsters I can't find out, well Barclays should be ashamed they can't even open a bank account correctly or maybe that is we're the crooks work. We should all get together to sue Barclays for negligence, what about it ?.?.?

I am so sorry to hear that Mr Neale still seems to be able to operate unimpeded. I have written 6 letters to Barclays listing around 9 false accounts he is using but they refuse to take any action, I have been in touch with Action Fraud many times no help at all, The Police dont want to know, I have also contacted the Banking Ombudsman who say they cannot act against Barclays and I should contact the Financial Servises who so far (2 months) have not bothered to answer. I have now sent the file to my Local MP in the hope that he might rattle a few cages. I just cannot believe that this has gone on for so long without any help from the Police perhaps they are aware but just dont want to act. Your comments please and I will forward to my MP who seems a good caring person, who knows it might stop this terrible crime

Ive just been scammed for an excavator supposedly in Ireland. Common thread here is that I transfered money from my account to a Barclays account in London. On top of that it was to a company name, "Tobin engineering".
My bank is contacting barclays I have gone to the police and made a statement. After reading the blogs on this site I realize now that I dont have a chance in hell of getting my money back. I dont understand how someone can register a company name without having to produce serious documents to them. Barclays is obviously more interested in making money than integrity.
