THE ONLY WAY TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM THIS SCAM IS TO NOT PAY ANYTHING UNTIL YOU HAVE VIEWED AND INSPECTED THE VEHICLE YOURSELF

IF FOR ANY REASON THE SELLER WON'T LET YOU SEE THE CAR BEFORE PAYING - WALK AWAY - YOU'RE BEING SCAMMED

There is no honest reason for a seller to hide or obscure the registration number of vehicle. The only motive is to hide the history and identity of the car from the buyer and make it difficult to trace (but it doesn't stop me). Walk away from any cars with registration details hidden.

(During the recent forum downtime I found that I was able to report fraudulent adverts to Autotrader UK much more quickly, and I have retained copies of those that I did report for inclusion in my archives)

If the same thing should happen in the future, obviously I'll report them to Autotrader UK in the first instance and make dummy forum entries so that I can immediately post them up retrospectively when the forum comes back.

My main priority is to get the fake adverts taken down, and the forum going down doesn't stop me doing that.
