Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

Hi guys. I run an air sports retail outlet called removed - CW. I found through on of the Chinese export site a company selling a paramotor back pack unit at a third of the European price. They stated the unit is made in the US when it is in fact made in Spain.

I made an inquiry and played along with the seller. He said he had 11 units but no photos. The price was frankly unbelievable but shipping to the UK at under 200USD for something that weighs 40kg in the crate was a real give away.

I asked for him to send his bank details and guess what I got:

ACCOUNT NAME:GOKILAVANT A/P DAVENDRAN <--- bank account reported
BANK NAME: MAYBANK
ACCOUNT NUMBER: 114598080319
SWIFT CODE: MBBEMYKL
BANK ADDRESS; MAYBANK JALAN MASJID INDIA, 52100 KUALA LUMPUR
COUNTRY: MALAYSIA.

The email address lead me to;
http://www.readergrout.com/index.php?ro ... ation_id=6

They also have a UK phone number and address.

After finding these fraudsters on your site I sent an email saying that they failed my banks security checks which resulted in an instant phone call from him. Just told him where to go.

I just got an email from him saying he thinks I'm not a real buyer as my company doesn't exist. It did the last time I looked...

Back to the old saying; if something looks too good to be true.... Buyer Beware!

Hi.
According to the website for readergrout.com
READER GROUT & EQUIPMENT LIMITED is a leading provider of GSM phones and accessories located in Uk

The fact is that there is a registered limited company with that name and address in the UK but it appears to be dormant.
It is listed as a manufacturer of machinery for mining, quarrying and construction. Company number 03025049.

The website also states
Our team has a combined experience of over 25 years within the cellular industry... we are able to anticipate future trends and not be caught unaware of the latest product and technology developments
but the website was only created on 17th September 2011 and for only one year.
This points to a fake company. A company that was switched on to technology for over twenty five years would have built up a strong web presence before now.

The New York address does not appear to exist and the Malaysian address appears to be a florists.

In short, I believe this to be a fake website that is abusing the name of what was a legitimate trading company.
Please note: The registered directors of READER GROUT & EQUIPMENT LIMITED will not be involved in this scam website.

I've just had an email from readergrout saying I have 24h to remove my post or they will list me as a scammer. I've asked for they phone number so we can discuss. If this is a legitimate UK business they are as big a victim as the rest of us and we'll sort it. If not then what do I do? Allow them to get away with this and remove my post for fear of damage to my business?
We'll see what happens...

Hi Satora,

As ConWarner said in his post above, Reader Grout Ltd is a real limited company, however they are not associated with the website http://www.readergrout.com, which "sells" mobile phones and other electrical equipment.

The listing from Companies House

Name & Registered Office:
READER GROUT & EQUIPMENT LIMITED
NUNN BROOK ROAD
COUNTY ESTATE
SUTTON IN ASHFIELD
NOTTINGHAM
NG17 2HW
Company No. 03025049

Status: Active
Date of Incorporation: 22/02/1995

Country of Origin: United Kingdom

Company Type: Private Limited Company
Nature of Business (SIC):
2952 - Manufacture machines for mining, quarry etc.
2956 - Manufacture other special purpose machine

Accounting Reference Date: 31/12
Last Accounts Made Up To: 31/12/2010 (DORMANT)
Next Accounts Due: 30/09/2012
Last Return Made Up To: 22/02/2011
Next Return Due: 21/03/2012

Shows that they are a dormant company that used to be involved in the production of mining equipment.

I did find one entry on the web for the real Reader Grout (http://www.jnd.co.uk/readergrout) which would indicate that they are now a division of another company. There is a phone number on that page which it might be worth you calling.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

Reader Grout Equipment Limited is a listed UK company. If you are Reader Grout Equipment Limited, please email your phone number. If you don't have a UK phone number you are posing as someone else. Thats a scammer in my books.
This is your last chance to supply a UK phone number.

As you can no doubt tell, the grammar of the emails written to you is not that of a native English speaker.

I very much doubt that they are going to bother posting your details anywhere and if they do, then all you need to do is tell your side of the story and point them to this thread, where both myself and Con Warner have independently stated that the website is a fake designed to scam individuals out of money for goods that will never be shipped.

Notice how the only means of payment on the site is by bank transfer direct to their bank account. This is because they are unable to get a merchant account to allow them to offer credit and debit card payments.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.
