Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

Hi guys new to the forum here. I am a first time seller in Ebay who is selling a pair of Nike KD IV on Ebay. I had listed the buy it now price at 200 but I got a messege from the buyer saying that he would like it at 245 ASAP. When I agreed to the deal he immediately asked for my paypal address which I thought to be strange since you should be able to do the transaction through ebay. He then told I would have to give my address to him on the ebay invoice anyways, so I went with it. A few days later he bought it for the price of 245 using the buy it now button and the listing ended. I sent him an invoice with my address and he later told me that he couldn't access it since he couldn't access his email for some reason and told me to message my address. I did so and later received a suspicious email notifying that I had received payment but that it'll "not be credited to my account until the shipment references/tracking number is sent to us for verification". I have no notification of payment in Paypal account whatsoever. Additionally, his ebay account info and the info I received from this email have two different names and addresses. I am pretty sure this dude is a scammer but just want to make sure. Below are images of said email

Also, where do I go from here? How would I report to ebay and cancel this transaction all together? Thanks.

Check the headers of the email that appears to come from Paypal. You might find an IP address beginning with 41, though it looks like the scammer set up an alias for Gmail. The From: address is [email protected]; whois on that site shows that whoever registered it has something to hide, whereas whois on the real paypal.com shows that it's owned by Paypal and administered by eBay.

First of all, it is a scam, no doubt about that.

Paypal is not an escrow service--they do not get in the middle of transactions or hold any money pending shipping. Funds are transferred immediately, and you would see them in your account immediately.

As far as reporting goes, if you go to ebay's help system, you should be able to report this using the process for reporting a buyer who wants to take the purchase out off ebay. While in reality, they aren't sending any money at all, they are still technically trying to bypass ebay's system.

I recently got scammed by that same user in the post ([email protected]) and I was wondering what action I can take, if any, to get my merchandise back.

Sadly tinamangubat, what ever you sent is gone. The person you sent the item(s) to does not exist or does not have them because they forwarded them on to the scammer.

If you sent the items to someone in the country you are in, you may get the interest of the police. Don't be surprised if they just take a report and that is all you get from the police. That is about all they can do.

Came upon this page while Google-ing the two email addresses involved with a fraudulent PayPal email I received in my Spam folder.

I got a fake PayPal email from this [email protected] as well. My friend wanted to get money sent to my PayPal account for some Black/Red Air Jordan XIs that he was selling so I sent an invoice to the guy. I ended up canceling the invoice long before the fake PayPal email came (into my Spam folder no less). First thing of note was the fact that the email was from a [email protected], which obviously isn't a legitimate PayPal email address at all. Knowing it was a fraud I decided to look at the email even further.

While the exact email of [email protected] was not used, it was still embedded in the mailto: link for his new scam email [email protected]. Also of note, he didn't even change the embedded mailto:'s in the email for my own email address as the link embedded into my email address on the "Seller" and "Payment sent to" were to who I believe to be a previous (hopefully only attempted) victim.

Please watch out for this guy, especially if you're new to PayPal. It was obvious from the get go that the email was fraudulent, but I just want to put the word out to the rest of you.

Welcome to Scamwarners! Glad you found the email address here and recognized it as a scam.

Could you post the email from paypal-supports.com, including headers? That will help us get the domain shut down.

Also, please forward the address of the previous potential victim to the warners or moderators. They'll know what to do with them.
