Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

I was selling a boat for $5000 and the guy sent me a text stating that I send him a email. About 9 email in I get this
Dose this sound like a scam to you?

"Before i make the payment, there is something i need you to be aware of,i just received an email from the shipping company that will be in charge of the pick up.They are saying i need to pay them their fees which is $2000 before they proceed with coming for it and the only form of payment that they accept is Western Union Money Transfer.Where i am,the nearest union office is 8hrs where i am overseas,I don't know if it will be ok,if i include this agent's fees in the payment i will be sending you now,so on receipt of the total funds, you will remove the additional funds of $2000 and help me send it at your local Western Union office.Let me know if this is ok and i will proceed with the payment."

When I read this my Scam-dar went off
The first thing was what type of company only accepts a Western Union Money Transfer as payment and the second thing was he could probably get a boat for the same price where ever he is
I had told him I have sold the boat and removed from the site it was posted on

Hi SnifflingDarK and welcome to ScamWarners.

You were right to be suspicious, the mere mentions of "Shipping Company" and "Western Union Transfer" make it 100% a scam. The cheque that you get sent will be a fake and the banks will eventually discover this (it may take them weeks) and when they do, you will have the money debited from your account. Of course by then you will have sent the $2,000 to the scammers, so you will have lost that money.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.
