Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

By googling I found traces of this scam from earlier years as well, still thought it would be a good idea to post it here in case some haven't seen it.

Here's the story:

I'm browsing for cars at mobile.de, I find this very nice offer (obviously!) and the seller asks to contact him at [email protected]. I ask some questions about the car and get this reply:

Thank you for your interest in buying my car.

I bought this car when I was living with my ex-husband in Germany. I recently got a divorce after I found out that for the past 3 years he had an affair with another woman. It was a painful divorce for me, but at least I got my kids. Now I returned with them to my hometown in United Kingdom and the car is also located here . I am selling it under market value, as I need the funds to pay a major debt and the lower price is for a fast deal.

I already found a reputable delivery company specialized in this kind of transaction and they can take care of everything for me . They even allow the buyer to test the vehicle before paying for it and I think it is the fair thing to do. The delivery taxes are not included, but at this price, I'm sure that’s not a problem.

If you are interested, please let me know your city and postal code so I can find out the total cost , including delivery to your location.

Best Regards,

Anna

A rather strange reply so I decide to google it. I find that this letter (and similar letters) has been sent to numerous people, under numerous different car ads. After one agrees to buy the car the scammer asks for 30% deposit to the escrow service (fake ofc), then cashes out at Western Union and that's it. As I read from teh Internet several people have already gone for it and lost their money. Rather disgusting of course, because it's a substantial amonunt, not just 100$ that scammers often ask.
