Hello,

I am selling this vehicle because my brigade will deploy for 6 months to Afghanistan. I'm under enormous time pressure cause I need to sell it fast, before June 23th that being the reason for selling it so low. It is in perfect condition inside and out, never involved in accidents. From the beginning I must say that the vehicle has all the paper works and full service history.
I've never smoked in it, and I want to sell it to a serious person.

It is still available for sale if interested, price as stated in the ad £4,500. The vehicle is in Barry Budden Camp - Dundee, Scotland, UK in a military base, and in case it gets sold I will get it delivered. Let me know if you are interested, email back.

Thanks for your interest,

SGM. Anne Moore, ( 82nd BCT )

This was the next communication from the scammer. the name of the scammer had changed.

I replied with the address of a random police station.

Hello,

I've told you, at this moment I am in Dundee, Scotland, UK in a military base, getting ready for Afghanistan (I hope for the last time). I'm doing a special training program each day and I am not allowed to get out of the unit or give calls whenever I want. The delivery will take 2 to 3 days depending on your location and it’s not a problem because I can do it at no cost for you. Because it is a large transaction, we will complete the deal only using an authorized third part like Google Checkout coz I already prearranged the whole process with them, using their Google Safe Pay Solutions (bank-to-bank wire transfer) for vehicles.

The money will be sent to Google Checkout, before you will receive the vehicle. So, you will deposit the payment directly into the Google Checkout agent's bank account in United Kingdom, either online or at most banks and they will hold and secure your money during the entire transaction. I repeat, they will hold and insure your money until receipt of the vehicle in good condition and will release the funds to us only after you decide to keep the vehicle and you register it, into your name. You will have an inspection period of 7 days. In this time you can check, test and inspect the vehicle. If by any reason (the vehicle has any hidden damages or is not like I describe it) you can reject the deal. In this case Google Checkout will refund you totally and they will deliver the vehicle back.

Let me know your shipping details (your full name, full address and home phone number) so I can open a transaction case with Google Checkout and declare you as buyer. They will contact you with further information regarding payment and delivery.

Regards,

SGM. Tracey Walker, ( 82nd BCT )

Anne

It’s not the vehicle I am worried about – I know nothing about you. Your name comes up as nothing, your address nothing, your regiment nothing your base in Dundee is a training camp, your phone number doesn’t work and your Hotmail account is not registered to MSN Hotmail and if I google you there comes up with several sites as internet scams.

I am sorry about you not feeling comfortable with ID on the internet – I am not feeling entirely comfortable either but have given you my details in good faith and provided you with my name, home address and telephone numbers, mobile number, work email, work address and telephone number.

The bank wont release funds to an unknown – unless you can provide me with some sort of identification –( or telephone me ) or your regiment or something I cannot transfer £3200

I have acted in good faith !

Jules

Hello,

Like i have told you before i will pay for the delivery and you will have 7 days the camper in your custody to make any test you want and after this 7 days you can decide if you buy it or not. So you will have the posibility to check it with DVLA you can check the engine and everything. So sorry i am not feeling so comfortable to sent my ID trough the internet.
Just go to your bank and tell that you want tomake a normal bank transfer and i will deliver it to your address Saturday morning.

Regards!
Anne

I did receive it – but I cannot find you on any registers either at your home address or your work station. My Bank did a call credit check on your name but there is nothing to verify you – no driving licence or documents registered – nothing at all. Can you please provide me with some sort of ID so that I can satisfy the bank

Thanks

This van is currently advertised on gumtree Newcastle. It went on about 6 hours ago. What can I do to alert the authorities?
by Bubbles Tue Jul 10, 2012 11:12 pm
Just report it to Gumtree. He will pop up again.

The difficulty is scammers use fake everything and are totally willing to abandon an email address. Scammers do not use anything that is connected to their real life, so catching them is difficult.

I understand your desire to get rid of them. :)

Hi,

Same camp, different e-mail address. Advertised in Autotrader too. A 2001 Swift Sundance 620 Fiat Ducato 2.8 TD Diesel 65,000 Miles.?
All the usual stuff avbout Afghanistan deployment etc.
Changed the e-mail address to [email protected] (signs her name as Joanna with two n's and e-mail with just one!)
Told her i will only deal in person, face to face and hand over the money in person once I have inspected, and am happy with, the vehicle, she replied 'thats fine, what are your delivery details' !!!

:bondage: These people should be taken to Afghanistan..........and left there as target practice for our real soldiers!!

This is still going on. I emailed a post on Autotrader yesterday (17th july) about the following vehicle.

2004 Mercedes Vito Campervan 111CDI 2.2 Turbo Diesel LWB 72,000 Miles.

Same text and email ([email protected]) as the above posts.

The autotrader advert has been removed. I wanted to view the vehicle, and got a return email asking for name, address, etc. and explaining that the transaction would be via google checkout.

The price was £4200. If it is too good to be true...

When is Autotrader going to clamp down on this guy?

Anybody got a nice campervan they want to sell? :D

After seeing a 'too good to be true' VW Transporter T30 Shuttle reg: KP08NFV MPV on Gumtree for £3,700, I got the same scam email with the same text as others about this lady being based at the Barry Budden Camp - Dundee, Scotland, UK in a military base and that her brigade is going to Afghanistan so she was selling in a hurry before 8-Aug-12. Her email this time was [email protected].

Thanks to this thread I was able to check that a too good to be true advert on Autotrader was this scammer!

For the moment I am in Aberdeen, Scotland, UK in a military base, getting ready for Afghanistan (I hope for the last time). I'm doing a special training program each day and I am not allowed to get out of the unit or give calls whenever I want. The delivery will take 2 to 3 days depending on your location and it's not a problem because I can do it at no cost for you.

What's the best thing for me to do to report this twat? I have already notified autotrader and the advert has been taken down.

I would love to do a bit of baiting, but have already revealed my ID by emailing the "seller".
