He tried it with me. His email address is [email protected]. Comparethis message to others he's tried:
"Hi thanks for your message, I will not be coming to view it because of my working condition, i am a Marine Biologist and i am buying this for my Dad, i am at sea right now and i will be glad if you accept my offer and we proceed. I can only pay through paypal at the moment as i don't have access to my bank account online but i have it attached to my paypal account and this is why i insisted on using paypal to pay, all i will need is your paypal email address to make the payment and if you don't have a paypal account yet, it's pretty easy to set one up at www.paypal.com, i will be expecting your email. I have a pick up agent that will come for the pick up after payment has been made for it. When last was it serviced? Are you the first owner ?"

What gave it away was he said he was at sea, but he used his cell phone to text me. Cell phones don't work at sea.

These people have been sending me emails about my vehicles all the time, each one wants to pay by paypal and each one is at sea. I traced all their emails back to Mountain View California. That is where this scam ring operates out of.

To trace an email
1- check mark the email, then right click on it, scroll down to "message source"
2-open that and a new tab or window opens with the information, "select all", then "copy".
3- open a website called whatismyipaddress.com, go to trace email
4 paste the "message source" info into the box marked "headers" then click "get source"

All the time they operate out of Mountain View, out of the 650 area code.

I'm glad that you have been able to recognize the scams.

One small point, though. The scammers are not operating out of Mountain View, California. They are nowhere near California, and the different scammers are not necessarily connected to each other.

Mountain View, California, is Google's headquarters. The primary servers supporting gmail are in Mountain View.
Unlike many other mail providers, gmail does not show the true originating IP when emails are sent using the gmail web interface--instead, all emails will show an originating IP that traces to Mountain View, no matter where in the world the person is located. If you log into gmail and send an email to someone, it will also show a location of Mountain View.

There are ways to get location information for many scammers using gmail, but the headers will not work.
