This car is listed as an 87 3 dr Cosworth for £5500. The phone number is a Luton/Dunstable number (01582) yet the person, "Sarah" is working in Scotland. The real hook for interested buyers is the free delivery of the car to anywhere in the UK after paying for it via Paypal on E-bay on the classifieds section "Buy it now."
Now I was nearly sucked in as I have been long for one of these cars for a while and the actual HPI check came up clear! Yes, that is correct because the car is not stolen with the scammer just using someone elses photos.
BUT the phone was an extension number and "Sarah" would only correspond via e mail "[email protected]" which is a USA account. This set the alarm bells ringing for me and then I found this site with the motor home scam from earlier along with the digger with the same e mail address being used. A similar pattern is being used with the same e mail address. I am actually drawing the person along a little longer, getting more and more examples of answers they are using to highlight the scam. I thought about getting the eBay offer up also and then exposing the scam through the questions section but I don't want someone else to fall for the "buy it now" trick before I have the chance to expose the scam.
Also assessing the autotrader advert a little closer it is now apparent that the standard of English is not up to scratch. There are some grammatical errors that now shout out to me that this person is either not a native english speaker OR the use of language is incorrect. Also the need to pay through Paypal nearly sucked me in as I thought that this was pretty safe but apparently in the "classifieds" section of e bay the protection is not as rigorous, maybe someone with more knowledge of e bay an make sense of that one.
Anyway I am now always going to call, personally view and always pay by cash upon collection for any thing of value, even on e bay.
