Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

Hi there!

I have recently been selling a plethora of Guild Wars 2 CD keys/games on ebay. I was buying the codes from a kid in Vietnam. We were using paypal at first, but Vietnam has strict paypal rules apparently for verifying accounts or something.

Anyways we got to know each other for months. All went well. Several of my buyers codes though were getting suspended becuase they were purchased with a "stolen" credit card.
So, I have been having to refund people like crazy.

I have the guys bank account information, his name , address, zip code and everything. Am I totally screwed if I goto the police? I tried to ask him for a refund but he deleted me of course. But I have all of his personal information since we did wire transfers bank to bank. or Western Union Bill pay.

Is there a chance I could win this battle since I actually have his credentials?

You can report it to local police but you were basically selling something that was purchased with stollen credit cards from an individual not a company. Even though you may not have known they were stollen you were still selling stollen products. I am not a lawyer or a police officer but I believe you are not going to get much assistance.

Even if that was not the case the likely hood of law enforcement prosecuting someone from a foreign country over a few thousand dollars (just guessing since you didn't say) is nearly 0%. It cost a lot of money to prosecute someone from a foreign country if even possible the crime has to out way the cost.

And then there is the fact you may or may not have the persons real details. Internet criminals often use money mules to launder money into bank accounts. If you sent the money via Western Union as your title suggest its good as gone and chances are all the details were fake.

I wish I had Bette news but this falls in to a hard lesson to learn. I'm sure you will be more careful in the future with who you deal with on the Internet.
