Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

It's my first time using these forums as well as Craigslist and I want to be sure I don't make a mistake. My dad is selling a wrecked car for salvage and he received a response from a potential buyer that seems a little "off" to me. Based on the little research I've done regarding potential scams, this buyer seems to fit the mold -- just looking for some reassurance.

The buyer is [email protected]

Buyer:
"is the vehicle still running in a good condition?"

My dad:
"motor is still in good condition car was T-boned in auto wreck and was totaled by insurance company its only good for salvage parts sale"

Buyer:
"Hi there, Thank you for getting back to me.Can you assure me that themerchandise is in good state and that i will not be disappointed withit and I'm ready to pay your asking price. To be honest, i wanted tobuy this for my Dad and he is a mechanic, but the issue now is I'm amarine contractor and i just got a contract which i am doing presentlyand the contract is strictly no call, due to the lack of reception onthe sea area, But I'm able to access email anytime as we will make useof laptop so my only quickest payment option is PayPal as i can sendmoney via PayPal anytime. More so i choose PayPal for this transactioncause i want to avoid the scams going down on the internet thisdays, and want the both party to be on a safer side because PayPalsecurity measure is unbeatable. Since I'm requesting this transactionto be done via PayPal, i will be responsible for all the pay palfee/charges on this transaction and if you don't have an account withPayPal, its
>pretty easy, safe and secured to open one. Just log on towww.paypal.com. I hope we can make the purchase as fast as possible? Ihave a mover that will come for it once payment clears and they willbe handling the title for me.So i look forward to hear from you soon.Your PayPal e-Mail Address :Full name:Firm Price:Zip code for pickupRegards."

There seems to be all sorts of red flags in that email but we replied again just to see what we would get, basically explaining that the car will need to be towed to its destination, and he most recently replied, "alright let me have your paypal email address and i made the payment."

If this is a scam, could someone explain to me the purpose of this type of scam? Maybe I'm just oblivious but what would someone be able to accomplish with just my paypal email? I've used paypal a few times but only for purchasing from online retailers and ebay.

Thanks for any help.

He's going to send you a fake PayPal email that claims that PayPal has taken the money from his account, but will not put it in your account until you send the shipping fee to the shipper. So you send the money to the shipper (probably by Western Union) and send the documentation that you sent the payment to the fake PayPal site. The shipper never shows up, nor does any money appear in your account, and the scammer, who owns the shipping company, has stolen your money.

The reason he won't talk on the phone is that you'd recognize his accent as West African, or worse, wouldn't be able to understand him.
