Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

Make the buyer or seller give you his/her phone number and speak to him/her on the phone.

If they won't do it - drop them. If they can use e-mail then they can get a phone signal. There's no valid reason not to speak to you unless they're a scammer.

Firstly, you can check if the number matches where they claim to be located and lastly most Nigerian scammers like to hide behind the anonymity of a pc screen because you wouldn't understand a word of what a Nigerian based scammer says to you, and it's a very strong accent you can't miss. Not every Nigerian's a scammer, but if he's told you he's a Scotsman, his cover is blown if he rings from Nigeria with a strong local accent.

You could be dealing with a UK scammer but this simple check will at least give you a chance of disposing of a large proportion of the scammers currently working online sites.

Watch out for the 44 (0)70 numbers which are used by scammers to make themselves appear to be in the UK and they redirect calls to anywhere else in the world. If someone claiming to be in the UK gives you one of those numbers, they're a scammer.

Finally post the number they give you in your report of the scam along with their e-mail contents and addie here.

The more info we have on them the better we can track their activities.
