Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.
by vivvi75 Sat Jun 29, 2013 12:43 pm
I have been in contact with a person called Charlene Silvis ([email protected]) stating that she is representing ON-LINE SALES & PROMOTIONS LTD in the UK regarding selling stuff (computers and cameras) for them on sites like eBay.
Stupidly enough I agreed on listing their products on my eBay acct. Within a day I had sold 3 cameras and 2 laptops and got immediate payment into my Paypal acct.

After that I recieved tracking information on the dispatched items (sent via Parcelforce Worldwide) followed by an invoice for those items.
I proceeded to pay using the provided emailaddress [email protected] (which for some reasons are linked to another company).

That's when my problems started with Paypal. They froze my acct and opened a case. I sent all documents I had to proof the background to the recent activity. Their reply:
my account had been closed down for security reasons!
Due to this my eBay and oDesk acct has been suspended.

Have I become a victim of fraud?

Welcome to Scamwarners vivvi75.

Is it a fraud ? - yes and a very nasty one.

It's the first time I've heard anyone actually go ahead and allow their Ebay account to be used by a third party as we usually manage to point out the risks to anyone who posts here before they agree to it.

If the fact you've lost your Ebay account isn't bad enough you could also face claims from buyers of the goods and/or suppliers who may have sent goods against phished card details.

There's no telling what the fraudster may have done using your ID, but it's currently a massive problem on Ebay.

What they've done will depend on how much access you've given them to your account.

Oh no! Tell me it isn't true!
The company even has it's own website with a chat: https://on-line-sales-promotions-limite ... s/about-us

I Googled that site and entered the chat just to ask if the person that had contaced me was for real. The answer I got was yes.

Now what do I do!?

Actually I have given no details or logins to my eBay or Paypal to a third party. I listed those items myself based on files that were sent to me ( i e pic's, product descriptions and warranty/return info).

you could also face claims from buyers of the goods and/or suppliers who may have sent goods against phished card details

Regarding payments from buyer's:
I have no knowledge of if any of the payments came from a fraudulent buyer on eBay. Paypal won't give me any information on why or howcome they came to the consensus of shutting my acct down.

According to Parcelforce Worldwide tracing (http://www.parcelforce.com/track-trace) the status of the delivery verifies that the goods have been delivered.
I even contacted one of the buyer's on eBay to verify that he had recieved the camera, but have gotten no reply yet. Another buyer on another site has promised to send me an email to verify that he's recieved his parcel. Still waiting for him to reply (that buyer I believe is innocent and truthful).

Okay.

Such a company does exist and I've looked at the website you've mentioned.

The bad news is that the website is 99.9% certain to be nothing to do with the real company.

It's only a small detail but the website shows

Copyright © 1995-2013 ON-LINE SALES & PROMOTIONS LTD. All Rights Reserved.

.... however Companies House shows

Date of Incorporation: 12/12/2008

...... and indicates that accounts are overdue.

It can't copyright anything prior to its formation.

The main point is that no regular company or person would ask you to do what they've asked. If a five year old company hasn't established a reputation to trade in its own name, it hasn't been trading or it has a reputation it wishes to hide.

It's difficult to know precisely what they've done, but fraudsters don't conduct regular trades. Either the goods have been obtained fraudulently or the sale is fraudulent. Where did you send the money ?

One is a supermarket and the other a bar, which gives a total of three companies including the original one, none of whom will have any connection with each other. This is how these people function, by operating behind the identities of other people, which is what they did to you.

It's a variation on identity theft. They've used your identity to commit fraud and you are left with a list of unassociated identities they've taken off other people.

A good feedback score is a valuable thing and the scammer's cashed it in.

Apparently, the above site allows anybody to pretend to be any business, without any checking, free, for 14 days.

Shipping site says goods delivered? While customer says nothing yet? Mystery.

It is for sure that the scammer has not shipped any real products to your customers. PayPal should return money to the customers.

I must admit that your misfortune has demonstrated something I've never seen before and will be of immense help to others, and it very clearly shows the risks of getting involved in this type of arrangement.

You risk losing your Ebay account and unlimited costs.

We've been aware of this type of scam, and that it's been affecting Ebay, but we haven't known precisely how it's been snaring Ebayers. This ad is how, and a simple search shows how hard this has been promoted by criminals.

The post from Matilda21 is from the scammer.

If you accept this type of arrangement the least you risk is losing your Ebay account.

A real company will set up its own Ebay account. In fact, a real company will already have its own Ebay account.

If it doesn't have one, they either don't exist or have too bad a reputation to get one.

Well Mathilda, as Terrance just said: ON-LINE SALES & PROMOTIONS LTD is a legit company, but the people I've been dealing with have been claiming they represent this company and caused me a lot of trouble with Paypal, eBay and oDesk. :(

Mod note: The scammer tries once again to look credible by typing the text in this post. It's been left here so people can see what lengths they go to.

My answer to a threatening email:

"WHO ARE YOU!!?? Thanks to you my Paypal acct got frozen/closed due to security reasons, my eBay acct has a selling restriction. None of the buyer's have reported back about the products.
You send me documents/invoices that contain different email addresses, a Paypal acct ([email protected]) that has nothing to do with your company.
Now tell me, is that what a serious business/dropshipper does that claims to be in business for 8 years???"

"Exactly how serious??
What's the name of the lawyer? I'd like to talk with him/her!
Do you honestly think these threats scare me??!!
Bring it on!"

SCAMMER

"We sent the packages , we don`t get paid and you write on forums that we are scammers?
Why you did that?"

"I am a serious person not like you a liar.I kept my promises.Tomorrow you will be sued by my lawyers."

"If you are so honest as you say give me your phone number and my lawyer call you tomorrow to solve the problem.I'm not threatening you but why do you say that I have you fooled?"
