Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

I have had issues selling a car on Ebay and have just sold it again today but am uncertain about the buyer for this reason.
He wants to get a third party company collect the car. He lives 200 miles away and hasn't seen the car. Why buy a car you haven't seen?!
He wants to pay a deposit and then the balance by bank transfer on the day the car is collected.
He could quite easily NOT pay the balance-cancel it or something else.
I then asked him to pay with Paypal which he agreed to. However he could easily receive the car and then say it wasn't as described and obtain his money back with Paypal protection. I would lose the car-as I could nt go 200 iles to collect it with a truck, and he would have the car.
Has anyone fallen for this? Am I correct to be fearful?

You were right to be skeptical. This is 100% a scam. You will receive a fake email from paypal saying you have received money, then the scammer will ask you to pay the "shipping company", which is also fake. No money will ever show up in your paypal account, and you will be out whatever amount he had you send to the shipping company.
