Craigslist, Ebay and other online buying/selling scams.

Hi,

Just received the two following emails within a few hours of each for a car I currently have advertised on Auto trader.

[email protected]
Thank you for getting back to me, sorry for the late response due to the nature of my work, can you assure me that it’s in good condition because I don’t want to be disappointed buying this from you. I’m ready to pay your asking price but due to the nature of my work, i will not be able to come for the inspection because I’m an oceanographer, I can’t make any calls right now, I would have called you and discuss about this transaction, sorry for that but I’m able to access email anytime as I’m making use of PDA on sea, so the only quickest payment option is PayPal, I make the payment via PayPal since I’m requesting this transaction to be done via PayPal, i will be responsible for all the PayPal fee/charges on this transaction and if you don’t have an account with PayPal, its pretty easy, safe and secured to create. Just log on to http://www.paypal.co.uk. I hope we can make the deal as fast as possible? I have a Pick Up Agent that will come for the Inspection and take care of every necessary paper for me. the Pick Up Agent will also handle the pick up after i have send the money to your PayPal account, will like to see more pics.
I need the address where the agent will meet you and your PayPal email address so i can send the money now.

Hello,
Thanks for getting back to me.
I have gone through the FIAT and am ok with your final selling price has stated and will want to go ahead with the purchase of the car.
Please confirm if there is any other miscellaneous payment like, the tax charges, etc that will be added to it.The Transportation cost will be included to the Total amount that will be issued on the Cheque or Banker Draft and it will be used By My shipper who will be coming for the Pick Up at your location after your bank confirms cash available for use.Shipper will be the one to act on my behalf in the signing and documentation of the change of ownership,V5 and DVLA.
Let me know the name that will be written on the cheque that will be issued for payment of the Car and also the address to send the Cheque or Banker Draft to so can receive and get it deposit in your bank and wait for clearance and your phone number will be needed also so i can give you a call as soon as the cheque or Banker Draft is issued first thing on Tomorrow Morning from Central LONDON via Royal Mail and pick up will be done in your location as soon as your bank confirm the clearance of the cheque or Banker Draft and cash available for use.
I await the details to make out payment to you.
Regards,
Gurmani

Not so sure about the last one but Im guessing these are both fake? I agree by what has been said previously, who buys a second hand car online, offers full asking price without even viewing it!! If it sounds to good to be true it normally is! Thanks for all previous posts.

Added quotation and split. (BW)

Welcome to Scamwarners aylesy2013,

Both emails are scam mails. The scammer does not want your vehicle. He wants to steal your money. There is no shipper or mover, just the scammer pretending to be all parties. The scam works by sending you a fake Paypal payment, fake check or money order. He will pretend to send more than the asking price for the vehicle. The scammer will instruct you to pay the mover/shipper with the fake over payment. You will be asked to send the money via Western Union or Money Gram.

He will send a fake Paypal email stating that your money is on hold until you prove that you sent money to him/shipper/mover. The real Paypal will not hold your money.

If he sends a fake check/money order your bank may cash it. Weeks later you will be notified of the bad deposit. You will have to repay any monies withdrawn. The bank may even close your account and notify Law Enforcement about the fraud.

Please contacta moferatorstor if you have a question or information about this post.

Please do not tell the scammer he is posted here.

Welcome to Scamwarners ylesy2013.

(BW beat me to it)

The second one is more obviously a scam as he even makes clear how he'll do it. Instead of making payment himself to his fake pickup agent he wants you to do it on the basis of the fake 'spoofed' Paypal message he'll send you.

If he can pay you, any normal person would also pay their agent themselves but the scam doesn't work if he does that. He'll also make clear you have to make payment by Western Union, not by Paypal which is how he specifies you must accept payment from him. He can spoof a Paypal message but he can only pick up cash himself.

This is why he closely dictates to you how this transaction must go through, because he's trying to scam you.

CAR ADVERTS - If a car seller mentions escrow - he's scamming you Never ever for any reason pay anything until you have seen and inspected the vehicle

Welcome to Scamwarners Feishmeister,

You are not in danger. When the check arrives just rip it up and trash it. Ignore any emails from the scammer. He may even send you fake emails from the FBI or Attorney/Barrister. These are only fake threats. Scammers do not get the police involved in their criminal activities.

Please contacta moferatorstor if you have a question or information about this post.

Thanks very much for your help, receieved the 'Cheque' this morning and it seems very strange. It's £2000 over the price of the car I was selling.

Going to rip it up and BIN it.

People reading this DO NOT give any details to these people
