Hi everyone,

I purchased some tickets for a football match from craigslist and never received them, I paid via bank transfer so have their account details but unfortunately the transfer went through and I couldnt cancel.

Is there anything I can do with their account details to get my money back? my bank were not very helpful and I'm not sure if I can do anything.

Unfortunately, there is really nothing you can do unless you want to try to take the person to court. That is one of the problems with using bank transfer when dealing with strangers--if you authorized the transaction and it has been completed, your options for recovery will be extremely limited.

In general, the best options for online purchases are those with some kind of built in protection, like paypal and/or credit cards.

As Dotti says, court is your only likely solution - but there is probably one problem there. To take them to court you will need their name and physical address.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

thanks for the replies everyone.

Is there a way I can get their address from their bank account details?
I hope there is a way I can get their info from their account details, I cant just sit here and do nothing when I have some of their info.

Data Protection laws will prevent the bank from giving you the account holder's details.

You would need to report it to the police, and they can then obtain the details as part of their investigation (but still wouldn't provide you with the details).

Realistically, your only hope is if the police decide it is worth investigating and the case goes to court - only then are you likely to get the persons details.

It might help if you can find out whether or not they're operating this as a regular scam by watching out for similar adverts. Then you may be in a better position to get the attention of the police.
