Hi!
Today I listed my vehicle on Gumtree Australia. After just 2 hours I got a TEXT MESSAGE from someone who called himself Matthew. I wanted to know the price and the condition of the vehicle and told me to only answer to [email protected]. The price and condition was clearly indicated!
But at that point I did not know about all the scams going on, so I wrote back.

He replied with this : "Thanks for mailing back,am ok with the price and the condition,i work with New Zealand Oil and Gas (NZOG) and we are presently offshore in New Zealand Taranaki Basin on kupe project. We do not have access to phone at the moment, its 15days off and 15days on and that's why I contacted you with internet messaging facility.Regarding the payment,i will be paying you through PayPal,please get back to me with your paypal details so i can process the payment, you can alternatively send your bsb and acct number if you have no PayPal acct.I have also contacted my courier who will come for pick up and deliver it to my place in Darwin after the whole fund has been cleared into your acct.
Await your reply"

Here he says that he doesn't has access to phone. How come he could send me a text message then?
The name also changed from Matthew to Joe.
Luckily I had a look around on the Internet and found this website !
I've read about the other paypal scams, they are getting better : He used an existing company and the project he claimed to be working on existed as well.

DO NOT FALL FOR THE MARINE ENGINEER SCAM !

I have listed $15 item and by a guy name Charlie Matthew ([email protected]) wanted to buy (using PayPal) and telling me that his mover will collect it from me. After a few email exchanges, he then said that he will transfer $100 for the mover's fee into my PayPal account and ask me to pay the mover as the mover is apparently helping to move his stuff. Then later he added in another email that he will add in another $50 for the western union fee... WTF!

So I send him another email asking what is this all about, he said that he has already transferred $165 to my PayPal in which I checked it was not in my PayPal. He then "instructed" me to transfer $100 to the mover's account via Western Union... immediately I knew this was scam. His western union details below:

Name : Olasehinde Adesoji
Address : Olanrewaju Adepoju Close
City : Ibadan
Zip Code : 23402
Country : Nigeria

I played along with him, asking him to provide proof of his PayPal transfer and also his PayPal account ID... as I thought he could not give it to me... I then further wrote to him that I need to investigate this with the Australian Federal Police and PayPal. He stop reply for quite a while and later he had guts  to send another email instructing me to do the transfer.

So gumtree sellers beware... even if you are selling trinkets! My advice, If anyone plans to make your transaction complex just cut off.
