it looks there is a new Car Scam around. I was interested in a car from:

receive a receipt from the Western Union agent and all you have to do
is to scan this receipt and to send it to me attached trough e-mail.
This paper will be enough for me to see that you have the money and
your interest in buying my car is real.
At my turn, as soon as I will see the scanned receipt that will show
me that this amount is valid in Western Union YOUR name in London, I
will make some researches at the Airport, to see when I'll have
flights to London.
We will set up a place and a time when we should meet in London.

Yes, it is a scam. When you should send money via WU to another person, and give the scammer the payment details, then the scammer can pick up the money at any western union agency he chooses. This is possible in West African countries where it is not allways nessesary to show proper ID when picking up money. Never use western union when buying an item via the internet.

I decided to connect the "seller" and he quickly answered me after couple hours.
He wrote me the same story about his died brother and he offered me the same scheme of payment.

You say that you were ready to do it, so if i understand this correctly, you didn't send money to the scammer. Which means you were smart enough not to fall for this scam completely.

Hi Veli, this sounds like a good news story to me as well, you managed to learn about scams and not lose any money, that sounds like a good outcome to me.

The car that you were interested in did not exist and was certainly priced way below what it should have been worth, that is one of the classic warning signs, a very low price, the next warning sign is the involvement of a shipper or courier to delivery the car to you.

There are many signs that you need to look out for, these are 2 of the early ones, other signs are their poor English, little actual knowledge about the car when you ask questions,and unable to view the car before sending money.

Please be careful out there and dont forget, if it sounds too good to be true, there is a fair chance it is not.

thank you for your posts, it's really upsetting when you realize that you have run into such person or scammer!Well, he's not the only one, you know about all those e-mails "you won 1 000 000 $ on lottery" , which you have never played ... I will try to make a group in Facebook, so more people will know about it. If you'd like, I will post the group, so you can join it and tell all your friends about it, so there will be less people affected.

Be well, and thank God, I have friends who made me think that it could be a cheat and I didn't send the money... I was going to be like :X:X:X:X

Nice work Veli, As hard as it may seem to believe, most of us at Scamwarners do not have Facebook accounts, certainly not active ones so please forgive if you dont find a whole lot of us sending you friend requests, despite that, anything that spreads the word is to be commended

Please be careful with the personal information you reveal on that site as well as the information of your friends and family, that facebook account is now connected to a scam and when the scammer finds out he is unlikely to be too happy.

While I dont believe he will actually travel to your location to harm you, threats can be quite upsetting if he does have some personal information about you, your family or your friends.

Editing to add;

I have had another look through the Facebook profile that was posted and there are too many friends and family profiles linked as well as what appears to be real names of many of the people.

It simply is not worth placing yourself or any of those other people mentioned at risk for this awareness.

If you do want to create a Facebook wall to raise awareness, please do so with a completely new and annonymous account and do not put any personal details or friend profiles in there at all.
