I don't know if someone has post this before but im just doing it in order to help others. I received this email and it looked like scam to me so I looked for it on internet but didn't found anything, so I repplied to the "family" asking for their membership number from the newaupair site and when they didn't answered what i asked for, i knew it was definetly scam and so I googled their second email and found it here. It's basically the same message but from a different "family". btw this is a great site and sorry for my english.

I asked for her membership number as well but she failed tell me that. And she said she is a single mum but 1 of the picture was a family picture and I think the baby in the last pic is a different kid. Do you agree?

I have taken the pictures away for now, one of them is causing blowout (it's too wide) and they all contain the pictures of babies, I really dont like innocent kids having their faces shown here I will do some editing of the pictures and put them back later - Ralph

Thanks for posting these emails. I'm glad you didn't get scammed. Obviously the scammer stole those pictures off the internet, but did a shitty job on cutting the father off the pic's.

One problem is Cath89 that it's clear to a native English speaker that the last mail has been written by an ignorant moron with an IQ that wouldn't qualify him for senior school, but to someone who is not a native English speaker it might easily appear okay.

There are so many hideous bloopers in it, which I can't point out or he might come here and correct them in later efforts. There are clear indications that the person who wrote it is West African. Sadly the people most likely to fall for this scam aren't rich and are looking to work to earn money as opposed to the scum who send out these scams.

Hi, I was also scammed by "Kristy". Thank goodness I didnt give her money!! I will post some of the emails I got below ( I also received some exactly the same as you). When she asked me to go through the agency it was a different contact called Timothy who supposedly worked for Au Pair Care. I also asked him to ring me urgently which he did when I wanted to know more info about the job (when I still thought it was for real) - so dont know who I was talking to!! - not sure what nationality he was either. They also sent me through an address of where this person supposedly lived which I looked up on google earth - the address looks legit - but dont know who actually lives there!!
I am just so glad that someone posted Kristy Darrel as being a scammer on this website as otherwise it may have taken me a bit longer and possibly made me a bit poorer before I figured this out, so thanks!

I am happy to hear you have managed to avoid being scammed by being suspicious and doing some searches, well done.


This is a fairly common scam, the scammers will almost certainly be Nigerians who live in Nigeria so for them to be able to pull this off and look convincing is quite an accomplishment.

Everything they tell you will be fake or lies, they are good at pretending to be somebosy else and can be very convincing.

The main thing to remember here is that there are many more scammers out there who are just like him so be extra careful

Glad you escaped, Kiwi! What's new about this one is that there really is a company called Au Pair Care, in San Francisco, at the number in the email you got. We used them to hire an au pair once, and it is a completely legitimate company. Beyond that, of course, the emails you got are all fake, and as Gomer Pyle pointed out, the terrible English is a dead giveaway. The scammers must have been pretty confident you wouldn't call Au Pair Care a second time to check up on them!

By the way, last time I checked, there were only 7 legitimate au pair agencies in the USA, and going through one of them is the ONLY legal way to get hired as an au pair here. People employ other ways, but if you want to be completely legal here, you might think of going back to Au Pair Care (which is one of the 7) and applying with them, strange as that might sound now.

I gave some details of my life to this scammer... but nothing that could identify me (thank god), just things on my resume.... who anyone knows really. I did have some questions as they did mention how many "scammers" this person has been into contact with. I have been an au pair before, and know not to welcome random contact. Can you post the email address this scammer is using? Be aware that if this email address is tied to a facebook account with a picture of a younger woman, it is possible that it is simply one of the scammer's other characters.

It's possible in theory, but in practice it isn't going to happen. The scammer sounds West African, and law enforcement there is inefficient at best. Your local police doesn't have the resources to start an international operation to find the sender.
