Dying Individuals Requesting Your Help

These scammers hope that you will have the compassion to carry out the last wishes of dying (or potentially dying) people. Their last wishes are usually requests to distribute their money to charities, although there are variations, like the first one below, where the money is for an underage son. As an added incentive, the dying person will offer you a good pecentage of the millions of dollars they are bequesting.

Sometimes they will send you a photograph they have obtained of a person in a hospital bed. This will not be a true photograph of the writer of the email.

The scammer will direct you to a lawyer, or maybe a banker, or sometimes the doctor, who will be apparently be responsible for handling the transfer of the dying person's money to your bank account. The professional handling the transfer will soon tell you that there are some fees to be paid before the transfer can be made.

During this period, the dying person may remain alive and writing to you, often expressing their desire to see the transfer go through before their death; or they may undergo some worrying operations and be less able to write; or they may even die. This is all to underline to you the urgency of getting the transfer made, and therefore to encourage you to pay the fees quickly.

The scammer, however, is not a dying person, nor a lawyer nor banker nor doctor. There are no millions of dollars to bequest to charity, to support a child, or to share with you. No transfer to your account will ever be made. It is all a lie to try to get you to send money to the scammer. For their own pockets and pleasures only.
