Hey, this is a classic over payment scam.

He will send you a cheque worth more than the item is worth. Saying it is for the shipping company, or he only had a pre-written cheque from his boss. After you have cashed it, he will ask you to send the rest of the money back to him via Western union.

He might also cancel his order after you have cashed it, asking for the whole lot to be sent back.

Now, the cheque is a fake, it will pass the first set of tests at the bank and be cleared, but will be denied at the clearing house (this can be months later), after which ALL the money is removed from your account, leaving you with no money.

The best thing to do is email him saying you have found another buyer and have nothing else to sell. Then ignore all emails from him, set him as spam.

You will probably receive more scam letters. Read up on them so you can be sure not to be caught out.

Edit, the headers place him in Lagos, Nigeria. (41.219.241.10, Nigeria)

Edit 2: Could you include his initial email to you? It will probably be a script and might help convince others who google him.

You may want to stop messing with him as he has your real contact details.
If you want to learn how to annoy them like a pro, go to www.419eater.com and apply for a mentor.

Not true. Some of these scammers are very educated and very good at what they do. Bear in mind also, that English may not be their first language. It takes an intelligent mind to be able to carry off a scam that is not being run in your native language.

Never take their ignorance for granted.

Welcome Budman!

There are many many fine honest people In Nigeria, and many there help us in what we do. It is sad that a few bad apples give them such a bad name.
by budman Tue May 20, 2008 5:07 pm
ok received payment, 3200US and I was asking only 500US. Now that I have payment what would you guys recommand to do?

Payment from SAMRA VVV-AVIA COR
211 SMITHTOWN AVENUE
RONKONKOMA, NY 11779

by Dan Jones Tue May 20, 2008 5:29 pm
Do not cash the cheque

Seriously, break off contact. I assume the cheque is in yours or your companies name. If it is, write Fake on it in big letters.

Now, either stop emailing the guy, or tell him you have sold the item to someone else, you will tear up his cheque and you don't have anything else to sell him.

This person is a criminal. He may have friends in your area who will come round to ask why you are messing him about. Do not put yourself at risk.

by budman Tue May 20, 2008 5:35 pm
don t worry I wont cash the cheque, and don t think he has friends here lol should I report to RCMP fraud division that s like FBI in canada?

email he sent me this morning LOL

PLEASE YOU WILL BE IN THE BEST POSITION TO EXPLAIN THAT...COS AS YOU CAN SEE IT IS CLEARLY STATED ON THERE WEBSITE...PLS TRY AND CONTACT THE NEAREST UPS OFFICE AND STATE YOUR COMPLAIN OF THE PARCEL THEY SAID THEY DELIVERED TO YOU, AND YOU CONFIRMED YOU DIDNT SEE ANYTHING...BEFORE I GO AHEAD WITH ANY LEGAL ACTIONS.

THANKS

What I will have to go to court in Nigeria IMAO
