Has someone offered you a huge sum of money or a valuable consignment? It's a 419 or advance fee fraud - find out how they work, and what to do to be safe.

Hello,

I suspect that I'm targeted by a scammer. Little bit too late I realized that is a scam :/ Unfortunately I gave the scammer my personal details. Naive as it is I was hoping for a job (decent pay).. When he/she said that I will be paid upfront but the sum will be larger and I have to deduct my fee from it - then green light appeard. Common sense came back and then it hit me.

What can I do about it now? Someone from 419eater.com redirected me to this site - hope you can help.

My last e-mail to this MF was "419" - that's all. Maybe I shouldn't write it and should play along and bait him or something but I was so furious when I found out that is a scam...

He's got my address and mobile phone number, nothing else. Phone # can be easily changed, address - could be a problem. Is there any threat?

Now I am thinking about baiting him, but not from my original account.. But that's something for 419eater.com . What can you advise me at this point?

Found this at Craig's List in jobs adverts - cleaner to be precise. She/he told me that I will be recieving some amount of money via Western Union. I've got her/his e-mail, that is all.

Cheers.

PS. first e-mail by "her" (name Lejia, e-mail domain: rediffmail.com):

Welcome here, Baniocha,

I've seen your post on 419eater.com as well.
First of all, drop any and all contact with the scammer.
Second, the fact that he has your address and mobile phone number isn't much to worry about. It looks like you behaved like a victim who found out it is a scam and won't pay any money. In that case they move on to their next victim. They won't come after you, because it's not worth their trouble. It happens too often to them for that. The only thing they're interested in is your money and they now know that you won't pay.
It's probably not necessary to change your mobile phone number, unless the scammer starts and keeps harassing you on it, but that's not very likely. If he calls you a few times, just hang up as soon as you notice it's him. He'll give up sooner or later.

If you want to start baiting, it's indeed best to discuss that at 419eater.com. There are all the experts.

Agreed. He only asked for your address and mobile number as that is what a real employer would do. It's certainly not enough for identity fraud, even if the scammer had that in mind. There's no need to go to the trouble of changing phones. Certainly not now, and probably not at all.
