Dotti wrote:http://www.bayswaterflats.co.uk is a known scam website. At first glance, the 2nd site you referenced looks like it is probably real, but some of our UK site researchers can come along and confirm that.

http://www.bayswater-flats.co.uk is a scam website, no http://www.bayswaterflats.co.uk the website is different
and then http://www.bayswaterflats.co.uk is the same as http://www.londonw1w2.co.uk

can you check better please?

thank you

Editing to note: My Fake site identification skills are lacking and that somebody who knows loads more than me about fake sites is about, please take note of Michael's findings over mine in regards to this, he will have a much better idea

Hi Burner, fake sites is certainly not my area of expertise so hopefully somebody with more knowledge on fake sites will be along soon.

Until they do, my suggestion is not to use any suspicious site until you know.

With the above in mind, it is generally much easier to find out if they are scammers after they start sending emails (for me at least) the best things to remember during your first emails with any online company you have not previously used is to check them out before giving them any details and dont hand over money unless you are absolutely sure.

In the case of the last site you asked about, my novice opinion is that I have a feeling there is something wrong, here is the whois information;

There is a gmail email address listed as their contact email which I thought was odd, there is also no expiry or creation date in the records.

I may be wrong on this, I did look closer and found some things that would make me very cautions including a charity scam that used the same address.

Oh site killers, your needed 8)

Allrighty, here's what I got;

*Crownlettings.com
The site has been registered for a long period.
Contact data seem to check out, it resolves to a postbox and while that might be a bit suspicious it's far from proof.
Seeing how it's the physical adress being used in a scam it's possible the scammers just stole the adress of this company/ using a post box in the same facility, I don't think they are related to this site.

I'm leaning towards legitimate, I can't see any flags of it being fake. That being said, if they request payments through Western Union or Moneygram stay away from them.
http://www.bayswater-flats.co.uk is a scam website, no http://www.bayswaterflats.co.uk the website is different

I think you are correct here and that Dotti was thinking about bayswater-flats.co.uk, a fake site we have closed down about three days ago.

I'll look into it some more but at first glance bayswaterflats.co.uk and it's sibling look legit.

I wouldn't do business with the site you mentioned.

I found this page on a website - full of cloned and innactive property websites.

http://www.accommodationforstudents.com ... London.asp

Among them is one by the name of Inverness Properties.

It proves nothing, but it's a matter for concern.

You didn't spot his one

http://www.landlords-uk.org.uk/landlord.asp?id=1992

Someone appears to have more websites than properties. A veritable production line.

There's also this version

http://invernesspropertiesukltd.co.uk/index.html

Same details and identifying itself as a limited company, which is a legal requirement in UK law that has not been observed on the other website versions. Also the Company registration number and registered office isn't quoted.

Companies House

INVERNESS PROPERTIES UK LIMITED
F4
62 INVERNESS TERRACE
LONDON
W2 3LB
Company No. 04487642

Status: Active
Date of Incorporation: 16/07/2002

Country of Origin: United Kingdom
Company Type: Private Limited Company

Next Accounts Due: 31/05/2010 OVERDUE

So that's why it's called Inverness Properties. :D

I'm agreeing with Gomer here - although there isn't much to be found that it points to a scam (the classic scam we deal with mostly, that is) I personally wouldn't deal with them. I'm not calling it fake, it's just.. there might be safer choices.

victorstone.co.uk looks legit at first sight
