This is a phishing attempt. The Nigeria IP means that it was sent by a scammer who wants to get into your email account, most likely to either (a) send out thousand of scam letters using your email or (b) send an email to all of your friends, pretending that you are stranded somewhere, and telling them to send money to help you.

Either way, delete it and move on.

Hotmail will actually never send you an email that requires you type in your password in an email response. Any email like this, no matter where it comes from, is a scam.

Hi Heartbroken
A good course of action is to immediately report the suspect email directly to hotmail.
They may be able to track the culprit from the headers.
Thankyou for posting the article as it warns others.

How do I make the report to hotmail?
by Norman Barlleo Thu Oct 07, 2010 7:04 pm
Hi Heartbroken35

If you report it to hotmail, he will just open a new account and carry on his phishing attempts.

The best thing is to leave it so potential victims can find this thread!

DON'T tell the scammer that you found him in this site. Just cease all communications with him and move on.

Go to hotmail and select Options. At the bottom of the page click on Feedback and the feedback page will load.
Also try sending an email to [email protected].
There is a phone number to ring. Probably a number in the U.S. by the sounds of it. Not sure if the phone number is any use but 1 800 386 5550.
As Norman says, new addresses can be created quickly and he will just carry on with his fraudulant activity.

Welcome Rachel,

Michelle removed your email address as posting it will only attract spammers and scammers.

Just to clarify--I'm not certain why you think all of these scams are from England? That really isn't the case. In fact, many scammers claim to be in England, but are not even on the same continent. Scams come from all over the world, with a heavier concentration in some areas. This particular one (and many using this same format) traces to Nigeria, where law enforcement is not going to take action.
