I recently applied for a trial of a cosmetic product for which I only had to pay the postage. It looked like the company was based in the USA. The deal was order the free sample and there was a ten day trial period, after this they would send a full supply of the product, billing my credit card.
I did not receive the sample within ten days. I tried to call the company on the numbers supplied but the message always said that the lines were engaged or that the office was closed for the holiday. I contacted my credit card company to cancel any future transactions and they informed me that the company was Chinese based. They have sent me a claim form to stop the payments.
This morning I received a further email saying that they had shipped my order! the header from this email is as follows

There a various feedback reports associated with the details you have given. All are bad!
It seems that this company advertises health products for teeth whitening, hair loss, weight loss etc.
All the reports I have seen state that they did not receive the sample at all and in most cases, the card was charged the full month's rate - typically $80 - $100.
Some were only charged the shipping cost but that was rare.

Numbers go unanswered and I have tried the UK support number. I got a message asking to call back during office hours. That was at 11am!

It could be that the company is just incompetent but everything points to a scam.
I am sure that some of the members here will come across more info as they look at it from their angle.

In the mean time, please chase up your credit card company.

Thanks for that Con! Im sure it is, fortunately they so far have only taken the postage. Info on way to Credit Card company as we speak!
I will also report the matter to the site which carried the advert as they have to take some responsibility if they continue to use them.
Once when I phoned the number they indicated they were using Eastern Standard time in the US. Its very suspicious that their emails are from [email protected]!

Doing some research I suspect that the trail leads back to the company mentioned here.

http://www.bbb.org/south-east-florida/business-reviews/health-and-medical-products-scientifically-unproven/xmbrands-in-miami-gardens-fl-92013738

Look through the extensive list of names and websites to see if the one you used is there.

That site will be something useful to point your credit card company too, if it turns out that's who you dealt with, as you'll note it says

Based on BBB files, this business has a BBB Rating of F on a scale from A+ to F.
Factors that lowered this business' rating include:

* BBB concerns with the industry in which this business operates.
* Length of time business has been operating.
* 2820 complaints filed against business
* Failure to respond to 965 complaints filed against business.
* 14 complaints filed against business that were not resolved.
* Overall complaint history with BBB.
* Government action(s) against business.
* Business has failed to resolve underlying cause(s) of a pattern of complaints.

I can't confirm whether or not they're the same business as I don't know what site or name they used to you, but if they also claimed to be a Chinese company, then that is thoroughy disreputable behaviour. From what I've seen elsewhere it may become necessary to set up a new card.

Whenever payment is requested by Western Union you're dealing with a scammer

A big thank you to Capital one who called me tonight regarding a suspicious transaction trying to access my account. They phoned me and asked if I had authorised a transaction and named a company I haven't heard of. Not the Novapay mentioned above! They have refused the transaction and will issue me a new card. I was very suspicious when I first got the call but they didnt ask for any pin numbers or sensitive information like that, just my date of birth as they normally do.
I have also written to the site which ran the advert, Plenty of Fish, as they have these ads all the time.
Fingers crossed this puts an end to it.

Hey I got the exact same E-Mail and everything, I tried to google the location with the name of the "store" and the phone number. That is 100% a SCAM. I am still fighting with my bank on that one, they said they couldn't do anything for me, so therefor I must close the account and start over fresh. I am super mad!
by fried chicken Thu Jan 06, 2011 2:46 pm
Sorry to hear that Kherissa, it doesnt seem fair on you! Im glad my credit card company was paying attention and didnt process the payment. I had already advised them what had happened and they must have been extra vigilent.

A quick Google search on the name "zkassist.com" brings up hundreds of complaints. Obviously this scam is widespread.
