I posted the information previously under Romance Scams but wanted to be sure it was seen. I was scammed by a person from a dating Web site portraying himself as a Army Major and asking me to request his leave so we could meet. The request was granted but first I had to agree to pay for his release!!! His email address was [email protected]. The email I received granting his release is below. He sent me several pictures which most likely are not even him. He said his fiance died in a car crash, his parents were deceased and he was an only child. Now I found him again on the same dating Web site under a different name, same picture, so I know it was a scam!!!

Here's the email. BEWARE!!!

I'm sorry you were scammed. There are many scammers out there using this format right now, because they have found that it works.

He sent me several pictures which most likely are not even him.

They aren't. He is not American at all--he is a young black African man. This is a format used by African scammers, but more importantly the writing in the email you posted tells me that you are dealing with an African. The "Colonel" is the scammer himself or another scammer from the same gang.

If you have any other messages he sent you, it would be good to post them too. These scammers often use multiple names but keep the same scripts-- sending the same exact emails to dozens of women, simply changing the name (if they bother to put in a name) and sometimes adding a few lines to "customize" them. Posting the scripts can help others to identify scammers.
