Hi there

I'm hoping someone out there may know these people. I have been in conversation with a electronics firm via Alibaba trade from Indonesia whom are offering electronics at good rates.

They seem legit, offering a letter of guarantee with payment BUT payment via bank transfer and not via credit card or paypal! I have heard a lot of these people are scanners so am extremely worried about trading without doing some more research. The details are:

PT. Eza Genda Tbk
Indonesia
ID Proponsi Sumatera Utara Medan JI
Pattimura Gg. Kertas No.12

Contact name: Eduardo Salosa

If anyone has any knowledge of this company or suggestions as to how I might procede or verify there legitimacy then I would be very grateful.

As I say, they have been knowledgeable and very appropriate in communication so far but I'm struggling to get fully comfortable which of course may be my answer to my own question!

Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to Scamwarners Slugsy.

Personally I wouldn't recommend any Far Eastern electronics company I found on the internet that I didn't recognise, and Indonesia has a particularly bad reputation, and Medan is notorious. You can Google yourself for confirmation of what I say. Having said that, I wouldn't purchase from the website of a company based in my own country without independent verification, but it's easier to verify companies in the West. It's also easier to have recourse, whereas a letter of guarantee is worthless. It presupposes that the company exists and that you aren't dealing with a scammer. I appreciate that your enquiry is intended to obtain that information but realistically you aren't going to be able to get that.

I've Googled the company name and can find no evidence of it trading in Indonesia which I take to be a negative indication. Why wouldn't a supplier sell in his own country ? A business that would prefer to sell high value bulky electronics to Russia and Portugal without selling domestically doesn't make sense. He's also a free member of Alibaba who joined some time last year - that is - no track record.

It's also peculiar that an electronics company doesn't have a website. There again, many Far Eastern electronic sites are scams but at least a site gives you more facts that you can check.

Your request is a risk assessment issue and my own personal view would be that doing business with an unknown company with no verifiable track record, the rsk is too great.
