It's a scam, no doubt about it. Soldiers are given the means to communicate with their loved ones. You NEVER have to request phone, leave, or internet service for a soldier, and you certainly don't have to pay to be in contact with them. They do have access to their money, no matter what the scammers claim.

Yes, the Pamela Jones name has been used in the same kind of scams before. Although the email appears to have come from Washington, a little quick research shows that the IP has turned up in scams before, and is either compromised or a proxy. In other words, the email didn't really come from Washington, but from someone hiding their true location.

To add to what Dotti has stated I can add that anyone who has internet access, and this person obviously has, can use Skype to make free calls.

Soldiers in Iran and Afghanistan use it all the time.

Soldiers aren't stupid and would use the cheapest alternative. Only scammers make people they claim to love pay money for pointless and expensive alternatives that are really just methods to steal your money.

Sorry scorp1398, this is such a common scam that I didn't read your post thoroughly.

I missed that the scammer said that he was deployed to Libya. The USA doesn't have any troops there, and in the unlikely event that they did, they'd be under orders to keep it a secret and would hardly be likely to mention it.
