Hi there
Just wanting to warn anyone buying or selling on this site to "BEWARE". There are so many different scams they can't all be canvassed here. The Gumtree website has some generic info, but you can't save people from themselves.

The site is loaded with super 'too good to be true' posts in all categories. I had dealings in connection to buying a car. I can see why some people, even the well educated! If you can get over the fact that people aren't usually nice enough to send you their vehicle for a 10 day free, all money returned if not completely satisfied deal, the rest looks so real to the uninformed. Scammers request payment usually through Western Union, a credible company. The paperwork sent via email looked legit to me, not that I know what it is supposed to look like! They say there is an Ebay protection system and offer a link to a fake Ebay website. The boofheads mispelt ebay, but alot of people would not notice it.

This is one operating at the moment, but they change all the time and there are lots of untraceable accounts.

There are genuine sad stories out there but scammers take the cake. The item will be very cheap because the woman is divorcing or can't sell where the idiot says they took it too, usually Rome. You can't view the item like a car, motor bike, motorhome or Rental because the item is overseas or not in your state (no matter where you live) and the owner will be away so you can't meet them either. You are promised payment protection. There is no payment protection. If you contact ebay (without using their link) and ask them for verification they will tell you it is a scam.

These frauds will drop you like a hot rock if you let on you are suspicious or expect to have time to check them out. This is almost impossible anyway if they live overseas. Seriously, if you still believe you are just plain lucky, check out all the prestige vehicles, bikes, etc, on Gumtree and many other free sites, there are always heaps. I've seen a 2006 BMW low K's for under $5000..and an '06 Harley Fatboy for around $5000. So don't hurry. Email a few of the cheapies. I did and both were divorcees trying to rip off their hubbies. The scam is to get you to believe you are protected and send a wire payment in the belief that you are going to get a great deal. A little time and you will wise up!!

Welcome to ScamWarners Mazzy.

Thanks for the information. It could save someone from being scammed.

There has been some discussion regarding Gumtree recently. You might take a look at this thread: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=1886 as you may have something to add there.
