I somewhat know the answer to this but I need clarifcation as to how PayPal works.

Long story short - I sold an iPod for £70. He sent me the money. It didnt feel right and as payments were cleared in my bank I sent him £70 back. As soon as I did this he raised a claim saying that the iPod wasnt sent and the money went back to him. I am now £70 down.

He is now a few times a day saying he wants to give me my money back but only has £67 in his account. So could I send him £3 so then he can refund me. I have asked for him to just send me the £67 and that will do but he is admement that he cannot use the money in the account to just send me and that he can only refund. Is this in any way the truth?

I'm certainly not sending him anymore money but if he is genuine could there be any truth in PayPal not allowing him to send money but only refund?

I've sold stuff online before had had the usual Nigerian email. However this person is using British addresses and he doesnt have the usual badly spelt emails so I suspect he English.

Many Thanks all

Your instinct is right--there is absolutely no reason you should have to send him money in order for him to send you money. He could just send you the $67.

Thank you!

It's got to a stage where it's laughable now. He is telling me that PayPal are lying to me and that he can't send money.

Is there a way we can see where the email is originating from? his PayPal address is Manchester. But I guess that's a fake.

Hello Ronnie

If you can post the email headers from one of his emails we may be able to obtain more information. I agree this looks like a scam. How did he make the first payment through paypal or a check?

If your unsure how to get the email headers take alook at this link. When you post them make sure to take out your information.
