During my twenties, I experienced a series of jobs that failed to provide me with a sense of direction. By the time I reached the age of 28, I felt adrift in life. I returned to the temple for the High Holidays, an experience I hadn't had since my childhood. Struggling with understanding the Hebrew language, I began jotting down my thoughts in a notebook. I wrote about my unrealized dreams and the feeling of being a passive observer in my life rather than an active participant.

This marked the beginning of what I now refer to as my "Book of Life," an annual commitment I've maintained for the past 28 years. It involves a partnership with my future self. Each year, I ask myself what future Mark would appreciate my present self for, and I make a commitment to make those things happen. This practice has been transformative in helping me gain the focus to improve my habits, relationships, and build successful companies.

I firmly believe that when a community joins forces to solve its own issues, it regains its agency and becomes empowered. This community-focused approach is fundamental to my philanthropic philosophy. I'm driven by a desire to foster entrepreneurial ingenuity, enabling people to take sustainable and regenerative action within their communities.

My motivation arises from the forces that have shaped my life, and I aspire to create a world where my children can thrive in an environment that is regenerative, biodiverse, balanced, and flourishing. To this end, I am committed to alleviating poverty in my community to the best of my ability, and you are a part of my community.
