Hello chickenenchilada

As strange as it may sound - an engineer working abroad and asking for money is a classic sign of a Romance Scammer.

You haven't given us much to go on but looking at the Facebook Profile I would say that it is the profile of a scammer, and that he has simply copied the pictures from here:

Follow the link and then scroll down.

^^^^ The profile is private but you can see the profile picture.

Please follow the last link that I posted and then scroll down until you see the third or fourth picture on the right hand side.

SNAP .. they are identical.

It seems that Jerry Richardson has stolen the pictures of Gavin Byrne who is a Male Model from Belfast.

I am sad about your friend, but you musn't give up on the job you have to do to stop the scam. You can volunteer information in snippets.
Ask her if she knows what a 419 scam is and if not to find it out for herself.
Tell her if he wants money it will be by Western Union or Moneygram and is a SURE fake.
If he is an engineer he will be well paid so why does he want money ?
Tell her she will be told lies about various disasters that happen to him. It will always be solved by her sending money as above, and will never end .
Tell her to check email headers and if from West Africa it is always a scam.
Tell her to look at the English and ask herself is it what would be expected from a professional engineer with a degree from University.

You must give it to her in bite size parts so she doesn't shut it off, and if that advice and info gets to her before it happens she should/could wake up. Of course she may already have sent money and is refusing at present to accept that she is being scammed. I am sure others on this site will tell you how difficult it is, or can be, to get victims to accept the fact. I suggest you give her the scamwarners website link.
Ther is no easy way forward in this and she will need you when it finally comes to light. I hope you do well with this and please come back and keep us informed .
