Has someone offered you a huge sum of money or a valuable consignment? It's a 419 or advance fee fraud - find out how they work, and what to do to be safe.

There are various UK-based companies that offer cell phones at prices that are at or lower than typical market prices. However, when I try to do a background search on them little comes up--they don't have a legitimate site and advertise by posting on forums.

It seems almost certain that they are a scam but I've contacted their representatives who are adamant that the products and company are legitimate. Thoughts? Here's an example:

I have removed the link to that advertising, a search on some of the content reveals they already have lots of advertising without it being advertised here as well - Ralph

Hi Thetymeis

Welcome to Scamwarners

We are investigating the information you have provided but in the meantime I am not comfortable having a link to it, it if is a scam then we could be directing our visitors to it, if it is legitimate we are giving them free advertising.

After we investigate we will let you know

Wow, talk about a necro :)

Ralph isn't active here anymore so I'm afraid he won't be able to elaborate. I can give you my opinion though.

I think scammers won't have the decency to tell "no, we aren't real, we are scammers" when you ask them whether they are legitimate, so you can't really depend on that.

Personally, I wouldn't trust a company which resolves to advertisement through forum spamming at all. It's a technique commonly used by scammers and counterfeit item sellers. My advice would be to stay away.
