Has someone offered you a huge sum of money or a valuable consignment? It's a 419 or advance fee fraud - find out how they work, and what to do to be safe.

This email was forwarded to me by one of our visitors

I dont have time to to any searches to find the proof in this case but afew quick things to indicate teh scam

It is sent at random and not addressed to anybody in particular
It is from ahotmail address
It offers a large sum of money which no real person will do

I could go on but if you also received this email, it should be proof enough of the scam

1. Diocese of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA = Aosta, Italy ??? :yikes:

2. A church charity, USA-based, offering a prize in Euros ??? :yikes:

3. I did a quick search on the (legitimate) website of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg, and did not find anyone with the last name of "Gerspach." The website includes a complete list of affiliated personnel -- bishop, priests, deacons, sisters (nuns/religious women), and laypersons. Nobody with that name.

4. My next online search did, however, turn up a similar letter allegedly from the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA < located several hours drive away from Harrisburg on the west side of the state of Pennsylvania > -- also = Aosta Italy, complete with an offer of Euros.

I agree with Ralph: scam

p.s. The street address and five-digit zip code for USA locations on this scam e-mail are correct for Catholic Charities, Diocese of Harrisburg. However, a USA phone number for a landline phone in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, would be (and IS on their legitimate website) starting with the digits "717."
