This type of scam offers compensation or a donation or a gift 'for your past efforts'. Somebody who has previously answered at least one scam email, perhaps not knowing it was a scam - or maybe later suspecting it was - or someone who has offered to help with a legitimate cause - upon reading this may think, 'I wonder if this is about that time I was in contact with......?' And that is what the scammer hopes for.
These two examples also introduce lots of names and the recipient might think that at least one of them seems a little familiar.
The first one mentions:
- Peter Kokou (the sender)
- Amos Peters (at the reply-to address)
- Johnson Ama (the secretary)
- Silver Adakwame (another secretary)
The second one mentions:
- Linda Mentu (the sender)
- John Pt. (at the reply-to address)
- John Eme (the secretary - apparently the same person as John Pt. but one might not notice that)
- Sam P. (the writer)
Sometimes, however, these sort of mails are sent from a scammer that one knows one has had previous contact with.
But, whatever names are used - however few, however many, familiar, vaguely familiar, unfamiliar - this sort of email is always a scam. The scammer will introduce some fees that need to be paid before the compensation or gift can be released. But the compensation/donation/gift does not exist, and therefore, will never be given.

subject Compensation
Good Day.
I'm happy to inform you about my success in getting the fund transferred to
a Swiss Account with the cooperation of a new partner from Peru who is
an international business man. Presently I'm in Peru for investment projects
with my own share of the total sum.
Meanwhile, I did not forget your past efforts and attempts to assist me in
transferring those funds despite that it failed us some how.
Now contact my secretary.
Her contact is: Name: Mr. Johnson Ama
Email Address: [email protected]
Ask her to send you the total $1.400.000.00 (One Million Four Hundred Thousand
US Dollars) that I kept for your compensation for all the past efforts and
attempts to assist me in this matter.
Also do use part of the money for philanthropist purposes for use in helping
the less privileged in your area. Especially at this festive season. Put a
smile on somebody face and let the world be better for it.
I appreciated your efforts at that time very much. So feel free and get in
touch with my secretary Mrs. Silver Adakwame and instruct her where to
Send the amount to you.
Please do let me know immediately you receive it so that we can share the
joy after all the suffering at that time. In the moment, I am very busy here
because of the investment projects which me and the new partner I am having at hand.
Finally, remember that I had forwarded instruction to my secretary on your
behalf to receive that money, so feel free to get in touch with Mrs. Silver Adakwame
and she will send the amount to you without any delay.
I beg you in the name of the most high to use at least 50% of the proceed to
put smile on the faces of the less privileged especially during this festive
season.
This is my utmost wish for this donation.
With best regards
Mr. Peter Kokou
