Received this so called death threat on Saturday, not quite sure what to do, but after a few emails it has become apparent that this is a total scam motive here's the following emails:

This is a hitlad who hijacked a server at Stanford to send a message. Ignore it. killer.org is apparently not a fake domain, but the lad spoofed the domain; it's hosted in Germany.

ETA: "hitlad" is baiter jargon for a scammer who pretends to be an assassin.

First of all, simply ignore the silly tosser. Have you noticed all the X lines in the header? That means the header has been forged by the sender.

It is completely a scam.

Just block the email address and don't respond any more to emails you might receive.

There is no one out to kill you. This is a "hit man" scam and it plays on the fear the recipients have.

It would no harm to report it. Lodging a complaint with your local police station would probably not achieve much. If you are in the US, the government's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) would accept a report.
The fraudulant tricksters use internet cafes and sometimes relay points, so tracking the email to a specific individual would be difficult. However at least any reports you submit will go on file.

The place it would do most good to report it is Stanford, which apparently has a security hole or malware on some computer. This won't do anything to the scammer, who most likely is in a third-world country, but it will be one fewer computer for scammers to abuse.
