Has someone offered you a huge sum of money or a valuable consignment? It's a 419 or advance fee fraud - find out how they work, and what to do to be safe.

This is a scam: the Government Grant does not exist. The fake Public Information Officer or another equally fake person will require a fee to be paid, but no Grant will ever be made.

No Government Department in the UK uses a rocketmail or a gmail or any other webmail address.

We have received this one this morning (UK office), it made me look twice as it's slightly more convincing than the usual 'inbox' trash I ferret through every day. The big givaway for me was the term "10 lucky recipients".
Our government may have dumbed down some of it's official language, but I don't think they would use the word Lucky !!!

Apparently, it's still going around. The .pdf attachment was very slick-looking, but the new e-mail address to reply to < [email protected] > is a dead giveaway that this is bogus. With everyone searching for grants, it would be easy to swallow the hook otherwise.

Hi there
I'm new to this site and thought I would share the following:
I too have received a notification on the UK Worlwide Recovery Grant from a certain Mr. Justin Morgan. In the past two days I have received more "winnings" from Coca Cola, Yahoo, Gmail, Microsoft, various Africans operating 419's, etc. On paper I could buy my own small country if I had to cash in.

Unfortunately in my line of work (skills development and community sustainability) we rely on funding for our projects. This is not available from our own government (easier to suck water out of a rock) so we have to source international funding. I think these scammers are waiting to pounce on companies and people like us.

Thank you for this site as I think I will be using it in all my future decisions

Kind Regards
Terence Olivier

Welcome Terence,

I'm glad you are aware that these are scams.

Unfortunately, once your company's details are posted online, you are a target of scammers. Some scams are more general, like the lottery scams, but some are even modified to fit the companies they target--these scams are even more dangerous as more people will believe them. That's why education is so important.

Please feel free to post any new scams you receive, and don't hesitate to stop in and ask if you have questions.

Welcome to Scamwarners
I don't think that lottery and grant scammers target their scams at particular people or organisations. It's more likely that your email address has been harvested somewhere recently.

Scam. There's an identically worded one here viewtopic.php?f=7&t=6006&p=21103&hilit=trillion#p21103
Yours is slightly more sophisticated as they created a bogus website. I've started the process of getting it closed.
Domain Name:RECOVERYAIDS.ORG
Created On:05-Dec-2010 12:55:28 UTC
Last Updated On:05-Dec-2010 12:55:28 UTC
Expiration Date:05-Dec-2011 12:55:28 UTC

The email headers will have been spoofed to look as if it came from [email protected], which is why you are asked to reply to a different address.

I've just been rescued from almost applying for a government grant through a 'Mrs. Megan Pearson' - Grant Information Officer/Expert, Collaborated Grant Office, [SBA/ARA/US/EU/UN] United Kingdom. I would have been totally taken in, along with the town committee I serve on, except for a small glitch that I thank God for! The link 'Megan' sent me didn't work, so I tried other ways of getting onto their website (Worrldwide Recovery Grants and Recoveryaids.org) to access the online application form. Instead, I found this site - and others stating that it was a scam. A short time later, 'Megan' sent me a new link that worked. Talk about saved by the bell!!!!!! The sweat on my brow hasn't dried yet!

Hi Beesmart,

I am very glad to hear you found us in time :D

A short time later, 'Megan' sent me a new link that worked.

And which link would that be? We probably can get that one offline, too ;) Please post the mails, email addresses, everything you have on them so others can find it as well. Thanks!
