I received the below email this morning. I have no idea if this is legitimate as there are no phone numbers to contact.
Thank you,
Dear Customer,

We still have no response from our statements of the past three months nor from the letters that we sent you regarding your credit card debt.

Your entire account is now seriously past due: It is obvious that our efforts to clear the account on a mutually agreeable basis have had no impact. Unless we receive payment from you within seven days, or can work out a mutually agreeable arrangement to discharge this obligation, we will have to report the matter to the retail credit bureau.

Subsequently, the account will be turned over for further legal actions against you. Since this is a costly procedure for both of us, and will cause serious damage to your credit rating, we would suggest that you respond immediately so that we can clear the matter at once without resorting to such procedures.

Again for your information the total balance on your credit card is $8,756.00, this is the last email to you as we will not be responsible for any further damage on your credit score.

Best Regards

Do you have a credit card debt and have you checked your credit report to ensure that nothing has been taken out in your name? Is any credit card number quoted?

It is very strange for companies to address a customer as "Dear Customer", it would normally be "Dear Mr X".

What is the email address that the email came from and what address is shown when you hit reply and were there any attachements (in if so are they .zip files)?

The domain microscan.in was registered in November to someone in Dehli, so it is a scam of some sort.

As Alan stated, it is a scam, plain and simple.

A few other points to consider:
-As stated above, a legitimate credit card company would use your name, not "dear customer."
-legitimate credit card companies do not threaten to report you to a credit bureau--they simply do it as part of their process for handling delinquent accounts.
-they would not try to manage a delinquent account via email--they would be sending you notices via postal mail, and would almost certainly be calling as well. You would also be receiving statements showing the amount owed. And probably notices that your credit card is suspended or cancelled.
-they also can't make up their minds as to who they are supposed to be. They threaten to turn you over for legal action, but then claim to be a law firm in their signature line? Which is it? Credit card company or law firm?

My guess is their ultimate goal is one or both of the following:
-If you contact them, convince you to "settle" by sending them money that you never owed in the first place.
-Use the opportunity to manipulate you into giving out your real personal and credit card information, which can then be used or sold.

Claiming to be a law firm is supposed to make you more concerned but the wording they use isn't what you'd expect from any competent legal practice.

This gives them away.

What credit card ?

Presumably their client would be the credit card company, and to establish who is pursuing you and what it is you actually owe they HAVE to disclose this to you. Without that information their threats are meaningless and pointless.

He won't disclose this information to you as the scammer doesn't know it and is on a fishing expedition.
