Has someone offered you a huge sum of money or a valuable consignment? It's a 419 or advance fee fraud - find out how they work, and what to do to be safe.

Hi everyone,
I write from Germany, so you have to excuse my English. I was contacted by an US-soldier who got my dates via dating site (parship.de). He wanted direct contact via email and we started chatting via MSN Messenger about two weeks ago. He told me he was stationed in Iraq. And that I should never talk to anybody about him and his career.
I first started getting distrustful when he kind of quoted strange lines during our conversation or asked the same question for a start several times. He told me a really sad story about his wife died of cancer 5 years ago and how he had to pay for all the operations. He told me as well that he couldn't end his deployment because the army would ask him to pay some transit fees and medical fees prior to that. He told me then that he had been cheated before by a girl friend asking him to lend her money and never paid back.
I asked for his unit then. He was a bit upset. After that it was the story of how we can talk over the phone because he told me first that soldiers are not allowed to use a mobile phone and after that he turned to I would have to get in touch with the army and get some T2-Satelitte contact. He gave me an email-address: [email protected]. When I googled that one I got across your site here. And now I wonder if he is telling the truth or whether he is also some kind of scam.
I didn't even realise there are people like him outside in the net. I am so naive...
Could you please help me with this guy.
Thanks a lot.

Hello Crumb and welcome to ScamWarners.

Yes, this is a scam. Scammers frequently tell you sad stories about their lives, in order to gain your sympathy. And scammers who are pretending to be soldiers frequently pretend to have difficulties with making phone calls - and say that they need your help.

You can read about this here: Scammers impersonating military personnel.

Please drop all contact with this scammer. He is not an American soldier; he is not in Iraq; and the only reason he is writing to you is to try and steal from you.

Could you please post an email from him (perhaps the first one he sent you), with its header information, as this will help other people realise also that this is a scam.

Hi Chris
thanks for answering so fast. I am just chatting with my personal scammer. He is trying to tell me he needs me to fill transit form for him so he can get his leave. Sure I will have to pay for him. His email is [email protected]
I will send you his first mail as soon as possible.
Even gave me his unit:
Richard Stevens
Sergeant SGT E8
Iraq/Bagdad
Camp Victory
0424 MITT (W6GVDQ)
Regards
Crumb

Hi Chris,

here is another one. In our last conversation when he told me to mail [email protected] he said his unit UIC was: W0DAG1.
Told him that he already gave me another UIC. He then said it had been a mistake.
I will look up instructions to post you his first mail
See you

Hi Chris,

I got the instructions from Crispy Duck how to copy the mails to you. So here we go. His first mail was an answer to mine as he asked me to write him via private mail when he contacted me via dating site (parship.de).

Hope this one is useful for you. I also can tell you that in his profile at the dating site he said to be 50 and a single man. He said he comes for Virgin Islands. So now he turns out to be a widower and comes from Garland, Texas.

In today's conversation he asked me to lend him some money so he can pay his transit fees in order to come home. He asked about 1500 EUR. He wants to pay me back as soon as he gets his fedelity (whatever this is).
So we didn't discuss this topic till the end. I will keep on. Perhaps I can get some more information or mail addresses for you.

Thanks a lot for helping me here
I feel kind of released that there are other like me and that there are even other to help. You are doing a great job. :=)
See you and take care :oh-joy:
