No amount of training prepares you for losing someone"
Am Rebbecca Barnes,26 years old,a driver for the medical team in Royal
Logistics corps.
The first time i was in Iraq was Christmas 2008,at Basra Air station,The
Atmosphere was oppressive.As the situation improves in Iraq,there are far
fewer incidents and causalities than there were a few years ago.I'm
trained to treat gunshot wounds and bomb blast injuries.Some money in
various currencies was discovered concealed in barrels with piles of
weapons and ammunition's at a location during a rescue operation,and it
was agreed by all party present that the money be shared amongst us,My
share was 1.3 million USD,this was quite a wrong thing to do,but I tell
you what? No compensation can make up for the risks we have taken with our
lives in this hell hole.
My Dear to conceal this kind of money became a problem for me,so with the
help of a German contact working here,and his office enjoys some
immunity,I was able to get the package out to a safe location entirely out
of trouble spot.
He does not know the real contents of the package,and believes that it
belongs to an American who died in an air raid,while receiving treatment
before giving up,trusted me to hand over the package to his family.There
is a secured way of getting the package out to a safer country for you to
pick up,and i will discuss this with you when I am sure that you are
willing to assist me.
I was a hairdresser before joining the army 5yrs ago,it was a big career
change,but i don't have any regret.I'm learning all the time,whether its
how to clean a weapon or how to maintain a tank.Female soldiers are armed
at all times-there's a high risk of kidnapping.We've had a couple of
rocket attacks and I have survived 2 suicide bomb attacks at the base.The
sound is terrifyingly loud but one have to get down on the ground and wait
until it's over.
There's never a point where you think,'what am i doing here?You sign up to
do a job and you have to get on with it.Thankfully,I haven't lost anyone
in action in my squadron.I don't think any amount of training can prepare
you for that.
The troops in Afghanistan are loosing men every other week,which must be
so hard.A security pact is agreed between Iraq and the US,meaning US
troops will leave by 2011 by the special grace of God,that's why i have
reached out to you for help.
